The Cold War is at its height. Two players, two browsers, one burning question: whose
side are these agents really on?
Martha Hurry - Double Agent is a real-time two-player Cold War strategy game, played
entirely in your browser — no download or install required. Challenge an
opponent from the lobby and fight a shadow war of spies, city revolts, and
double-crosses.
The setup
One player commands the Capitalist West. The other commands the Communist East. Both
of you control the same 26 agents — named Alpha through Zulu after the NATO
phonetic alphabet — but neither of you knows the true loyalties of the agents
you're commanding. Some of your spies are loyal. Some are working for the other side.
And you won't find out which is which until it's too late.
How you win
Own 18 of the 28 cities on the world map — or eliminate every one of your
opponent's truly loyal agents. Cities change hands through revolt missions. Successful
assassinations eliminate agents permanently; failed ones expose your operatives to the
other side. Everything costs money, and money comes from the cities you already own.
The spy network
Each side commands 26 agents ranked 0 to 4. Your rank 4 spy is guaranteed loyal. Your
rank 3s? One of them is actually the other side's rank 4. Your rank 2s? Two of them are
enemy rank 3s. The deception goes all the way down.
Agents obey the side with the higher rank for them — unless you issue a Mandatory
order, which overrides loyalty. But Mandatory orders can force a confrontation, and
confrontations reveal ranks. Every bit of information you gain costs something.
The missions
- Travel — Move agents across the Cold War map. 28 cities from
Washington to Yakutsk, connected by spy routes spanning the globe.
- Assassinate — Send a group of agents to eliminate a named
target. The stronger they are, the harder they are to kill.
- Start Revolt — Turn a city. Independent cities are easier.
Enemy cities take almost your entire network. And if any of your team is a mole,
the mission fails automatically.
Martha Hurry
Your handler throughout the game is Martha Hurry — the headline character created
by the great Australian cartoonist
Fred "Cul" Cullen,
rendered in his bold, anarchic
comic-strip style. She'll brief you, mock you when you lose, and deliver the final
verdict at the game's end. (There will be some, shall we say, Martha Hurry "fans" who
will be disappointed to learn she does not appear nude in this version of the game.
The wowsers got to us.)
